The best way to reach Château de Chillon is to walk from Montreux: 30 minutes by the Swiss riviera which is a delightful route!
We were looking for something a bit different to do on Sunday and decided to try the walk from Montreux to Château de Chillon.
We visited the wonderful Château a few years ago but hadn’t realised it was walkable from the city centre so we were excited to discover the route. We set off early with the children’s bicycles, a flask of hot chocolate and Jude’s camera.
We parked the car in one of the little streets around the casino in Montreux and set off. It’s a really lovely walk which follows the path directly next to the water and even on a rather grey day, it was still beautiful to look out over the lake and the mountains. The flat path meant that we could easily push Elio in his pushchair and the children could use their bikes the whole way (although they needed a little push up the little hill by the Château).
There is plenty to look at with topiary animal sculptures along the way and a couple of play areas for warmer days. There is also a little kiosk en route if you’re fancy some refreshment and public toilets too so really everything you need for a walk with children :-).
There were lots more people on the way back and we imagined it would get very busy in the summer months so probably a good idea to set off in the morning.
When we arrived at the castle, we found a nice spot to sit by the lake to drink our hot chocolates. The castle itself is obviously closed at the moment but it would be nice to combine the walk with a visit to the Château when it has reopened.
A really lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. The children loved it and arrived back at the car pink cheeked and muddy 😊.
