We tried the Hammetschwand Lift, at 1,132 meters, which is the highest outdoor lift in Europe!
We had a bit of a tough night as the hotel was noisy and Elio had no wish to sleep so we woke up the next day feeling a bit foggy. We perked up a bit after a good breakfast and we set off for the next stop on our itinerary which was Luzern where we parked the car at the train station and headed for pier 3.
We were very excited as we watched the Catamaran appear in front of us which would take us across the lake to Bürgenstock. The boat ride was lots of fun and the views were amazing as we zipped through the water. At the other end we boarded the funicular train which would take us up the mountain to the main resort which was the starting point of our walk to Hammetschwand lift.
It’s a beautiful and fairly easy walk along Felsenweg path and not too steep. You can choose to take the steps if you are feeling energetic which will save you a bit of time in the middle of the path.
We were the only people at the lift when we arrived so we went straight up. It moves pretty quickly and our tummies lurched a bit when we realised how high we were. At the top there is a nice area where you can admire the incredible views in all directions and a restaurant. It’s a pretty special place - yes thats the lift jutting out in the picture below!
After a stop to refuel we headed back down in the lift and retraced our steps back to the resort. I had Alba on my back and by this time she was trying to style my hair, was singing very loudly in my ear and kept trying to twist my head 180 degrees to give me kisses. All very sweet but I was rather relieved to offload my passenger when we got back on the funicular.
We really enjoyed this break away which gave us the chance to explore these wonderful places and reset our brains a bit after a difficult week.
