Champex-Lac (VS)

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

We visited the beautiful Champex-Lac during our weekend in Valais and we loved it.

There are a few places to park in the village near the lake and it was relatively quiet when we went so we managed to find a spot. I imagine it gets busy on sunny days so perhaps a good idea to arrive early.

Since it was snowy, we used the skis we bought for Elios pushchair so that he could remain warm and cosy but we saw other people with pushchairs using standard wheels. The path around the lake is quite flat so its an easy walk. At the far end is an ice skating area. It is possible to hire skates when you get there from the places below. The children loved sliding about on the ice and we took Elio for a spin too and he loved it.

We did the circuit of the lake which took us by a play area so we stopped for a bit of climbing and sliding. The little village itself has a selection of places to sit and have a drink, a small epicerie and a number of other boutiques so it's a nice place for a stroll.

There are plenty of other activities to try in the area including skiing and sledging and we saw people doing a tour of the lake with a group of St-Bernard dogs which we thought looked like fun.

It's a beautiful spot in winter, and I imagine its a perfect place for a picnic in the summer so we’ll have to go back and try it again in the warmer months.
