Following Elio’s birthday last week, we had a plan to get out and about with him this weekend and settled on Valais as our destination.
Jean found Home Partner which is a company in La Tzoumaz hosting many amazing properties in the area. They suggested the Chalet Micheline and after looking at the photographs, we were all really impatient to arrive on Friday evening. We collected the children from school and arrived just after 5pm. The chalet was easy to find and Rueben from the agency kindly met us there and helped guide me into the private car park with our huge van :-).
The first amazing thing about this chalet is that you reach it by PRIVATE FUNICULAR!!! This was a first for us and made life easier with Elio in his wheelchair and our suitcases. Such a cool way to arrive.
The chalet is beautiful and occupies a really peaceful spot with spectacular views. With 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, the chalet can accommodate up to 10 people comfortably and the living space is large with plenty of seating for everyone. Jude was keen to take the largest bedroom with beautiful views and sofa area, while Alba slept in the room with two sets of bunk beds, Jean and I took one of the en suite double bedrooms and Elio had the other. Perfect!
We quickly unpacked and got some music playing on the Bose sound system while we prepared dinner. It’s such a convivial space and it was nice to potter around in the kitchen with Jude and Alba perched at the breakfast bar telling me about their respective days at school.
After dinner we decided to try the hot tub which was really relaxing and offered amazing views. Jude and Alba really enjoyed this and we all fell into bed feeling peaceful and calm.
There is so much to do in the area all year round with plenty of places to visit (Verbier is not far away), skiing on the doorstep and plenty of hikes and walking activities. We decided to try a walk which was suitable for wheelchairs so we set off in the rain on Saturday morning. On our return, we lit the fire and enjoyed a nice lunch before settling down to watch a film. Elio really loves jacuzzis and it is one of the rare activities which we can all enjoy together so he came in with me for a splash before dinner. The chalet also has a large sauna so it’s an ideal spot to get away from it all and unwind.
Chalet Micheline is a wonderful place to enjoy this beautiful part of Switzerland. My favourite time of the day is always the morning when you can take in the view over your first cup of tea (or coffee). The thing I love about the mountain weather is that it changes rapidly so you have this ever changing view from every window, and there can't be many better spots than La Tzoumaz to observe it.
We have been lucky enough to stay in a number of chalets over the last few years but I think this ranks amongst my favourites. It is luxurious and comfortable with plenty of space for families and everything we needed for a really relaxing break where we were able to disconnect and focus on each other.
